Kara’s Quest Released!!!

Greetings,

I’m sorry for being away for so long, I was extremely busy with Kara’s Quest, I push myself to the limits to make it to the deadline, and thanfully I made it! Kara’s Quest was released on the 21st as it was planned to. You can check out the thread here:

I promise that from now on I’ll drop a post here every now and then, things were insanely busy for me so I really couldn’t take my time to post new entries, but now I can!

Thank You!

I’d like to start this entry with a HUGE thank you! As some of you may already know, a while ago I started accepting donations, they were pretty slow when I started but after DKS2 came out, the donations increased considerably, I really thank you for that. As I said, all the money raised from donations will be used in the game’s production, if no money is needed at the time, it will be saved for the next game.

Now back on Kara’s Quest, with this game I have someone helping with the mapping, I tried to put more energy in the mapping myself and they turned out to be my best effort in mapping so far, plus Calibre’s maps are incredibly beautiful, Kara’s Quest will feature one of the best maps in the DKS series.

Again, thank you all for your support.

Steady Progress.

I managed to get a lot of stuff done in the past few days, even though things have been crazy for me… As I covered so much work in so little time I think the release date is still the same, November the 21st.

Now, you will see a few known characters in Kara’s Quest, Tessa for example will not only appear in it but will be a playable character! Gauly will be there too, with a more significant appearance this time, still not playable though, I guess you will have to wait for the sequel to play with him again. heh

As I said, some nice features will be introduced in Kara’s Quest, for example, I removed the Random Encounters, monsters will appear in the field from now on, I’m a fan of random fights but it seems the majority isn’t, and I’m all about pleasing the customers, I hope you like it better like that.

Now, I’m thinking about having an extra bonus, something simple just to pass the time, I was thinking about making it possible to colect Concept Art, so you would be able to see all the characters’ concepts, I’m not sure about it though, would you like that?

Busy, busy, busy…

That’s it, very busy… I’m not working on Kara’s Quest as much as I wanted to because of that, it’s funny, I’m finding myself busier with Dark Souls 2 than with the project I’m currently working on.

The community has been pretty active lately, so I’m always answering posts there and I receive a lot of e-mails from players too and I help them promptly, I don’t complain about that because I see it as part of the package, giving support to the players is important, I believe in captiving the customers, I really do, I think if they trust and like you they will support you back.

Rest assured though, I AM working on Kara’s Quest, just not as much as I thought I would, today I did a lot of mapping though, I’m almost done with that, if everything goes accordingly to the planning, next week I’ll start eventing the game, scenes and such.

About me…

My name is Raphael Delmaschio, I’m 18 years old, I have been around the gaming community for 7 years now. I have always liked games, specially RPGs, my father played them and me and my brother instinctively started playing too.

I started with Game Design about 5 years ago, with RPG Maker 2003, I started many different project, I never released any of them, something alway happened along the way that kept me from completing it. Then RPG Maker XP was released, and games could be released commercialy with it, that’s when I really decided to try to make a living with it.

I worked in many projects as well, none of them survived, I had many teams but we always ended up losing interest on the project, then I decided to make something simple, using the resources I had, so I wouldn’t need a team to help me and I could make sure that I would be able to actually release the game. That’s when Dark Souls was born.

It’s production lasted for 7 months if I’m not mistaken, It had been a while since I had last worked with RMXP, so I was pretty rusty, it took me a while to get to know the program again. Dark Souls was released on April the 21st, it received some nice feedback from GameTunnel, RPGFan, Casual GamerChick and obviously from the fans, that inspired me to work on Dark Souls 2.

This one was faster, it took me 6 months to complete, and the last month was entiretly dedicated to testing, I wanted to make sure I was releasing a clean product, and I really did it, DS2 was released on October the 6th, and many people already played it through the end, not one bug was reported.

Right now I’m working on a spin-off DS2, entitled Dark Souls: Kara’s Quest, the game will take place 3 years after the events at DS2, and as the title suggests, Kara will be the protagonist, it’s still in an early stage, but as I’m recycling a lot of material it shouldn’t take long to finish it. I’m also adding a few features to it, and I’ll share them with you very shortly.

Well, aside from making games, I like music, movies, tv shows and more. I like working out, which I do regularly since I was 13 years old, a lot of people told me not to start so soon, that I wouldn’t grown up and such… it didn’t happened, I’m perfectly healthy. I like training MMA, and jogging as well, all in all, I’m a very active person.

Anyway, that’s that.

My Blog!

Well, everybody is doing it, so I decided to do it too. Blogs are a very powerful communication tool, and as a Game Designer this is very interesting to me. The ability to connect with the fans and fellow Game Designers will help me get better in what I do, hopefully.

I’m currently working on another game so this will be a good opportunity to hear your feedback during the actual development, not after it when changing the game is harder, so hopefully I’ll be able to give you what you want.

I’m very busy right now, Dark Souls II release and this other game I’m working on, I’ll give you more details about it very soon, so stay tuned! I’ll update the blog regularly.
